Interview
Reinout; Max-Tender
At MAX-Tender, we provide only the best quality. Because a lot is demanded of our drivers, we are highly selective in our hiring policy. Our drivers are our ambassadors and they take that role extremely seriously. Since October, Reinout has joined us as an ambassador and in this interview he talks about his special career switch.
Turning the knob
A career switch it was! Reinout explains, "For years I worked as an art director and photographer in advertising and I could have kept that up for the rest of my career. Yet a few years ago it began to gnaw at me. From a young age, I had a love of cars and car travel, and that love began to gnaw its way out. That's when I decided to train as a truck driver at age 51. Before you know it, you're retired and have spent your entire working life staring at a screen. I didn't feel like doing that. And besides, you're never too old to learn something new anyway.
So it happened. Reinout got both his CE driving license and Code 95 and went to work at the Port of Amsterdam. "I found a place in the raw and rugged port of Amsterdam. There I got a set of keys pressed into my hand and had to figure it out. That's what I did. Being self-taught, I thus taught myself, with the help of fine experienced colleagues, to drive a tractor-trailer across the Benelux. I am very happy with this experience because it brought me to where I am today."
Where is that? Reinout explains, "After one year I had learned my lesson in my then position as a driver. I was looking for more varied work, adventure and customer contact. So I started looking for a new challenge and ended up at MAX-Tender."
With relatively few miles on the clock, Reinout was hired. "In terms of driver mileage, I am the least experienced of the team, however very eager to learn. MAX-Tender supervises its ambassadors intensively in the initial phase and sees to it that all procedures are completed excellently. "I am seen here not only as a driver but also as a human being, which makes me feel so much at home here."
In perfect condition from a to b
When asked what this attention entails, Reinout answers the following: "Especially the relationship with the customers are very important. I myself am a great car enthusiast and can easily talk about this. This immediately breaks the ice. It is wonderful to share that passion, to see sparkling eyes. I explain clearly what we are going to do, how we are going to do it, and I do it with great care. The lines of communication between MAX-Tender and our customers are short and strong."

Making beautiful memories
How he likes it? "I made this career switch because I wanted to make great memories. I wanted to gain new experiences and enjoy my days. And that's exactly what I'm doing. You can't do things out of fear of the unknown, but I want to live life more in the moment. Enjoying the places and the people you meet along the way. I took the step and haven't regretted it for a moment. So if you want something, go for it."
